Rahab the harlot justified by faith or works?
Many people believed that Rahab the harlot was justified by works because in James 2:25 its says that “Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?”
My question to you all is that, “Was the Rahab the harlot justified by her good works in front of God?” or did her good works give righteous in front of God?
No my friends! 100% not.
In Hebrew 11:31 its says, “By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.”
Here the writer of Hebrew say by faith Rahab is perished not with them that believed not. When you read these verse and James 2:25 then simply you will find contrary one another.
What was really happened in Rahab’s life and when she got saved in God?
This answer can be found when you read Joshua chapter 2. When Joshua sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, and lodged in Rahab’s house. Rahab said unto the men,
“I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.: For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed. And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath. Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the LORD, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father’s house, and give me a true token: And that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.”
40 year ago when Israel came out of Egypt, the whole land of Jericho was afraid of Israelite and God of Israel. Even though Israel is afraid to go these promise land because of people lived in there. So 40 year ago, Rahab had faith that only God of Israel can save them. He is God of heaven and God of earth beneath. But manifestation of hers’ good works for God’s people was reveal at that time. So she was justified by faith in the side of God when she heard about God of Israel and his wondrous works.
Then what does James want to say from Rahab story?
The book James tells about righteousness of man in front of Man or manifestation of righteousness in good deeds. So, Rahab is justified by her’s works to other’s God’s people. Because no man justified by the works of the law and good works in front of God. But when you are justified by faith then you have manifestation of your righteousness by faith by good deeds.
